this saw looks great and feels nice but there seems to be a problem... I can't get it to start! Perhaps this is just a defect and not indicative of the company's overall quality but sadly I'm going to have to send it back.

I am a city boy. Sit behind a desk all day. I had used my Dads old chain saw for a bit and killed my back and arms. The old one was heavy and vibrated so much. This little saw cuts better, lasts longer, just works great. No vibration rocking my arms. Light so my back feels much better. Will cut the heck out of a big tree as well if you follow the instructions. Get 2 extra chains if you want to cut over 4 hours. Best of all - starts right up.

Makita DCS642120 64cc 20-in Gas Chain Saw

I've used many different chain saws over time, but this is the best of them all. It has a very low weight to power ratio, is reasonably trouble free (except for the tendency of the switch to break), and is a very good value for its cost. It starts easily (once you learn to pull it a few times with the switch off and then start it for real), doesn't cut out when you let it idle, is remarkably free of vibration, is capable of sustained use, and is, in general, a strong and loyal companion -- like a German shepherd with many more teeth.I will soon buy a second one, even though the first is a long way from having given up the ghost. An excellent value.

Husqvarna 455 Rancher 20-Inch 55-1/2cc 2-Stroke Gas-Powered Chain Saw (CARB Compliant)

Living in Alaska heating oil costs can get astronomical. I made a decision this year instead of paying the local lumber yard $125 a cord for split spruce; I would take care of it myself. After the 1st half cord of wood my old McCullough just wouldn't cut it anymore. The local saw shop didn't want to work on it and so I started looking around for a decent saw.I first purchased a Poulan 18" that was completely worthless. Gas and Oil leaked from the poor cap design while in operation and at rest in it's case. The poulan wouldn't stay running despite all my efforts to get it to behave.I quickly returned the Poulan and purchased the Husqy 455. I've been very happy with it's performance to date. It chews through White and Black spruce at insane speeds. I've cut 3 cords with it already and the only problem I've had to date is after about 45 minutes of cutting the saw will shut off at idle. I'm assuming this is a possible heating issue. If you let the saw rest for 2 minutes it fires right back up like it never had a problem. The choke handle is indeed very cheap plastic and I'm taking good care to handle it gently. The saw has already paid for itself and I expect to get many good years of service out of it. All in all it's the best saw I've used to date; but that's comparing it to Poulan and McCullough.

Echo CS-400 18

I have tried numerous chain saws (Craftsman, Poulin, mcculloch, etc). No comparison!!!!! Do yourself a favor spend the extra few bucks and get a saw that works when you need it. We live on a one acre wooded lot and needed a saw that's reliable. I have had the saw for about 4 months and cut down a few trees and cleaned up a lot of fallen trees as thick as 20" in diam. The saw starts fast about 3 or 4 pulls when cold. When the saw gets hot, its amazing. It restarts with less than ½ of a pull. When the chain is not engaged its so quiet it almost sounds like its not running. Smaller, light and quieter than most, it has enough power to do some pretty heavy work. Little or no vibration so its comfortable to use. My wife has been in fear of chain saws but when she saw how easy this one is to use she tried it and has cleaned up quite a few limbs from our yard. This is as good as the comparable Stihl at more than half the price and Echo trusts it quality and backs it up with a 5 year warranty.

Echo CS-550P 20

By way of introducing my review. I have about 15 chain saws....8 Stihl, 2 Jonsereds, 1 Olympik, 2 Homelites, and 2 Echo. I have used a chain saw weekly for 40 years I HAVE NEVER BURNED OUT.....BLOWN UP.....OR DAMAGED BY RUNNING, a chain saw in that time. That is, until now. I have a Stihl 041 that I bought in 1972......I cut firewood with it every year. It has probably cut 3-4000 cords of wood.I took one of these out of the box....ran it with a rich oil mix for about 10 hours of firewood cutting to break it in, and put it to work cutting sawmill slabs....YES, we have a sawmill, and 160 acres of timber.WE KNOW SAWS.....I have racks built where we stack the slabs from the mill, and cut them in piles. It makes a lot of firewood fast.A good, big saw was needed to run a 20" bar down through the slab piles. I started to cut with it, AT A RATE THAT IT SHOULD BE ABLE TO CUT, USING THE SAME GAS AS WE WERE USING IN ALL THE OTHER SAWS.....IT LASTED ABOUT 4 HOURS AND BURNT UP.This is too long a story for a review...but, here are the technicals. I found on the internet, that several people had this same experience. ECHO HAS PLASTIC GUARDS/STOPS/ ON THE HI AND LO FUEL ADJUSTMENT ...... THE SAW CANNOT BE ADJUSTED OUTSIDE OF A VERY NARROW RANGE....AND....THE MIXTURE WAS TOO LEAN.....WAY TOO LEAN. it could not be adjusted rich enough.I took it to the Echo dealer in a nearby town.....warranty repair.FAT CHANCEThe dealer, and a company higher up, told me that I had "run the saw without…

Solo 381-36 36-Inch 80.7cc 6.4 HP 2-Stroke Gas Powered Commercial Grade Chain Saw

I did not buy the saw here at Amazon but will rate it. I usually would not take the time but really like this saw and have owned a lot of saws in my life.I bought the Solo 681 as a open box from a local freight liquidator. I took it home and mixed some 2 cycle gas and fired it up. This saw is very powerful and not for the average person to cut around the house. If you do not select the compression release to reduce the cyl. compression... you may not be able to turn the engine over. However, for the experienced saw operator.. it's your normal procedure to select the compression release, set the choke and throttle and crank the saw.The 681 has a lot of power and is known as hot rod type saw and great rating as well. The saw is made in Germany and Solo has been in business for a long time and has full line of saws and related equipment. I just read that Solo and Dolmar are making saws for each other (different models) and Maketa owns Dolmar (what I read). The reasson that I rated it at 4 stars and not five is the Dealer Network. I emailed my warranty reg. with Solo @ Solo, Newport News, VA. They have a web site and you can order parts and down load parts books and all that. You can buy oil mix, chains and misc. items at Amazon or local stores in your area or mail order for the better price.I forgot to mention, for the Professional Wood Cutter's, they favor the Non Anti Kick Back Saw Chains for best cutting results. Go to the Oregon web site and select the correct chain, they list…

Husqvarna Pole Pruner - 12in. Bar, 25cc Engine, Model# 327P5X

Expesnive, but worth every penny. Everything about it says quality. Relatively easy to assemble and easy to use. Assembly and use of the body harness may be a little confusing at first, but it is an absolute necessity for increasing safety and reducing fatique. Packaging needs to be beefed up for shipping (maybe an outside box), because my packaging looked like it had been through a tornado. However, in spite of this, my unit arrive in good working condition. Highly recommend this saw... especially over the cheaper products that won't last a season.

Oregon PowerNow CS250E 14-Inch 40 Volt Max Lithium-Ion Chain Saw With Endurance Battery Pack

This is one of the best purchases I have ever made. I got tired of not being able to start chainsaws that had pull cords. I read the reviews for this one after seeing it listed in a magazine as one of the top tools. It is just what I needed. It starts with a push of the button, the batteries charge quickly, and it is lightweight. It cuts like "regular" chainsaws, only better. I did learn the hard way that it does not like branches less than an inch in diameter, the chain came off. But.... it was super simple to put the chain back on!I cannot say enough great things about this chainsaw.

Husqvarna Model 460 Rancher Chainsaw (60cc) with 24

Been doing research on the 460 before It gets here. People say it runs a little hot because of EPA requirements. I found 3 things for that. Depending upon where you live and Local Laws, you can Port the Muffler. Breathing better is 10%-20% more power. Next is use some Synthetic Oil. The last is tune the carb to run a little richer by turning the High Screw. Check Local Laws. This should be enough. To cut faster use a Skip Tooth Chain at a greater risk of the bar jumping back and killing you. This last modification may not be worth the risk :(

Solo 656-20 20-Inch 56cc 4.2 HP 2-Stroke Gas Powered Mid Range Chain Saw

Anticipating damage from Hurricane Irene, we ordered this chainsaw to upgrade from our 16" Husqvarna. Shipping was unbelievable. The Amazon page said I had 0 hours and 0 minutes to order it for Saturday delivery. Amazingly, it arrived on time. Our good luck ended there. When we opened the box and began to put it together, the problems started. The instructions were cryptic, to say the least. Solo provides two parts, only one of which is used, depending on the size of the chain. The directions say that it is very important that you do not use the incorrect part.Since the chain size was not on the packaging, we went online to look up the part number so we could find out what size the chain is. That's when we found out that they had shipped the wrong bar and chain. The bar number is for a pruning attachment and is only 18" long. The chain matches the bar at .325".I have no idea whether we can order another chain and bar for this saw, as the part number is not listed anywhere on Solo's site.Luckily, we didn't lose any trees on the road or close to the house, so we didn't need it.Update:Amazon rocks! They sent me a new chainsaw with the correct bar and chain. Thanks!

Husqvarna 440E 16-Inch 40.9cc 2-Stoke X-Torq Gas Powered Chain Saw (CARB Compliant)

29 of 29 people found the following review helpful 5.0 out of 5 starsThis saw is a champ! Just enough power for the 16" bar, August 9, 2011 By Wasatch Bill (Wasatch Mountains, Utah) - See all my reviewsI bought a smaller Husky, and had to exchange it for this one. It is the largest in Husquvarna's "Homeowner" series. Sometimes I wish I'd gotten a bigger saw; it bogs down easily if you lean on it when the bar is buried, but for limbing and logs up to 14" it works great, and I like the lighter weight. It fits in a medium sized backpack too. You can cut logs up to 32" if you don't rush. I keep it performing like a more powerful saw by buying a couple spare chains, and having them professionally sharpened.I have run this saw way harder than most homeowners. A tank of gas is good for a couple hours of cutting. I've probably been through 75 tanks of gas in 3 years. The toolless tensioner was not a factor when I bought it, but I love it now. I can easily adjust the chain tension while up in a tree, with one hand; try that with a wrench and screwdriver. This saw always starts. I have dropped it in a river twice. The first time I took it to the shop; they charged me $65 to "fix" it, and change out the gas. The second time, I pulled out the plug, dried it in the sun for awhile, put it in (even though I could still see water in the cylinder), and it started, coughed a bit, then blew out the water and ran great ever since.I run straight vegetable oil for…
